Our teaching and research focus on the comprehensive protection of nature and the environment. This includes the coordination and moderation of different land-use demands, while pursuing sustainable development.

We work in fields ranging from the natural science fundamentals of species and habitat protection,  the methodology of analysing natural balance and ecosystems, the assessment of landscape aesthetics to legal and economic instruments, strategies for spatial planning and development and questions of implementation and participation in planning.

In cooperaton with other Institutes of Leibniz University Hannover, further topics such as planning communication, flood protection or the use of renewable energies and their impact on environmental planning are dealt with in a way that is tailored to the requirements of spatial and landscape planning.
