In the book ‘Implementing Nature-based Solutions and Green Infrastructure for Cities, Citizens and Rivers - The SEE-URBAN-WATER project’, the authors of the junior research group SEE-URBAN-WATER, based at the Institute of Environmental Planning and headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Hack, summarise their scientific findings from 6 years of inter- and transdisciplinary research work.
In addition to an introduction to the research group and the research approach, the research areas are characterised and the most important results of the project are presented in three central chapters:
- Co-design and implementation of nature-based solutions (NbL) using a real-world laboratory approach,
- modelling and multifunctional scenario analyses on the impact and multifunctionality of NbL and - governance aspects of NbL deployment.
The primary target group of the publication are scientists and research-oriented practitioners who deal with sustainable water management and urban planning. The research findings have practical relevance in terms of improving urban drainage, wastewater treatment, water protection, river basin management and disaster prevention. However, they are also of interest to all those involved in the development of resilient cities - whether decision-makers and politicians or the general public.
The book should serve as an inspiration for other research groups to bridge the gap between theory and practice in order to translate sustainable development into concrete actions that benefit society and the environment.
