From May 18th - 26th, 2023, Prof. Jochen Hack (AG Digital Environmental Planning) will travel to Ecuador following the invitation of the German government to give expert lectures on the application of nature-based solutions in sustainable water management and ocean protection at the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro (ULEAM) in Manta and at the Escuela Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in Guayaquil. Furthermore, Prof. Hack will participate in the panel "Océanos siempre más sostenibles" initiated by the EU delegation at the EU festival "CulturCosta" in Portoviejo with a lecture and contributions to the panel discussion on the topic "Sustainable use of the oceans".

This is the second time that Prof. Jochen Hack has been invited by the German government to Ecuador for a lecture tour. His previous stay resulted in a close cooperation in research and teaching with the Escuela Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in Guayaquil. Within the framework of several short-term lectureships, Prof. Hack taught in the past in the master program "Climate Change" on the topics "Urban Green Infrastructures and Climate Resilience" and "Integrated Water Resources Management" and supervised several master theses. Furthermore, he is a member of the Centro de Internacional del Pacífico para la Reducción del Riesgo de Desastres (CIP-RRD) of ESPOL and works together with scientists* from Ecuador on sustainable solutions for disaster management.
