- Abstract
Urban tourism has seen great changes in the past decades. Visitors venture into residential neighbourhoods in search of authentic experiences of local urban life, while residents make use of infrastructure and attractions "just like tourists". These phenomena - termed New Urban Tourism - shape new places and events of urban tourism. This article uses the city of Berlin as a case study to illustrate how visitors and residents alike "presume" new tourist places, and to discuss resulting conflicts that arise from the city users' various requirements on their city. These conflicts in turn challenge the municipal administration and local politicians to find adequate modes of governing new urban tourism.
