In teaching we impart in students the capacities to solve complex planning problems and tasks of environmental - and nature conservation or spatial development. Besides knowledge of scientific basics in natural sciences this also includes the ability to perform Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitats Directive Assessment as well as the abilities to cope with the Intervention Regulation. Further important learning objectives are the acquisition of competences in preventive conceptual planning, e.g. spatial planning, landscape planning or management plans for the preservation of the European Network of Protected Areas (Natura 2000). Through a close cooperation of the two departments regional planning and regional science as well as landscape management and nature conservation, students learn to understand environmental planning as an integrated spatial approach, whose aims are the management of land use, the qualification und structuring of processes of consideration as well as the design of spatial structures under the principle of sustainability.
