On 15 and 16 October 2015, the 4th environmental work camp with Master's students took place, led by Dr Stefan Rüter and Katharina Niemann, both from the IUP.

As in previous years, the focus in 2015 was on practical work. After background knowledge on the topics of protection, maintenance and development of small water bodies was acquired on the first day, the 22 participants carried out a work assignment at the so-called "Quetzenbleek" on the second day. On an area of about 1,600 square metres, measures were implemented to preserve or restore a temporarily water-bearing small water body. The students cleared emerging woody plants and removed grass and shrubs. In addition, areas of the watercourse that had silted up were partially dug up.

The measures are intended to promote reed beds with endangered plant species such as the swan flower (Butomus umbellatus). In addition, the measures serve to ensure the flood flow in the Leine floodplain. The measures were implemented in close cooperation with Nabu Laatzen, and the city of Laatzen and other local stakeholders were also involved. Parts of the removed woody vegetation, namely a few bundles of willow rods, could be immediately conveyed to a Laatzen family who wants to build a willow tepee in their own garden with the material.

Despite the very bad, rainy and cold weather, the students carried out the entire work assignment with great commitment and in a good mood.
