Christian Albert, Professor of Landscape Planning and Ecosystem Services at the Institute of Environmental Planning (IUP), Leibniz University Hannover, has been appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief of the international peer-reviewed journal Landscape and Urban Planning. Published by Elsevier, the journal is among the leading international outlets for interdisciplinary research at the interface of landscape ecology, spatial and landscape planning, governance, and urban and regional development. In his new role, Prof. Albert will contribute to shaping the journal’s strategic direction and maintaining its high scientific standards together with the international editorial team. Prof. Albert is supported by Dr. Phoebe King, PostDoc at the IUP, who serves as Editorial Assistant, helping manage editorial responsibilities.
The appointment further reflects the research profile of the Institute of Environmental Planning, which focuses on understanding and shaping landscapes as complex social-ecological systems. Commenting on his role, Prof. Albert notes: “Many of today’s pressing environmental challenges—including biodiversity loss, changes in ecosystem services, and climate change impacts—are fundamentally spatial in nature. Landscape planning provides an integrative framework to link empirical evidence from environmental and social sciences with decision-making in planning, policy, and practice.” He sees Landscape and Urban Planning as a key platform for advancing such evidence-based, inter- and transdisciplinary research with strong societal relevance.
