As part of the Master's project "Healthy Cities? A Comparative Analysis of Hannover and Bratislava", a field trip to the Slovakian capital Bratislava took place from 09.06. to 14.06.2025, funded by the EULiST programme.

The city offers an exciting history and interesting planning aspects in addition to its location on the Danube and proximity to the Carpathian Mountains and the metropolis of Vienna. The lively touristic district and identity-forming old town contrast with private and institutionalised construction projects. Historically, the planning culture is characterised by architects and investors with strong influence.

The program included expert lectures from the partner university, the Slovak University of Technology, as well as other experts on the local planning system, urban planning, and participation. In addition to cultural insights, such as a visit to the modern art museum, the program included exploratory walks and guided hikes in the “Little Carpathians”. Another highlight was a day trip to the medium-sized town of Trencin, which is the EU Capital of Culture 2026, where local experts guided us through the city and provided valuable insights into urban development and current projects.

In short, the excursion offered a wide range of professional and cultural insights and was definitely worth the trip! The students will further process the findings and summarize them in a project report. A big thank you goes to the EULiST project partners Milan Husar, Sila Ceren Varis Husar, and Maroš Finka.
