From September 29 to October 4, 2024, 19 students participated in an excursion to Thessaloniki (Greece). It was organised by the Spatial Planning and Regional Development working group of the Institute of Environmental Planning and was led by Prof. Dr. Rainer Danielzyk and Johanna Richter.
Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece, facing multifaceted challenges. The six-day excursion focussed on the urban and regional development of the city and the future development of its (inner) city centre. Local stakeholders, including representatives from the city administration, civil society, and academia, were invited to discuss the city's planning structure and future development. To better understand the region and its interrelation with the city of Thessaloniki, the excursion also included three small and medium-sized towns (Edessa, Ptolemaida, and Veria).
The excursion was funded by the DAAD university partnership “FutureCentres” (https://future-centres.eu/). Von 29. September bis 4. Oktober 2024 nahmen 19 Studierende an der Exkursion “Urban and regional development in Thessaloniki (Greece)” der Arbeitsgruppe Raumordnung und Regionalentwicklung des Instituts für Umweltplanung unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Rainer Danielzyk und Frau Johanna Richter teil.
Thessaloniki, die zweitgrößte griechischen Stadt, steht vor vielfältigen Herausforderungen. Die Wochenexkursion konzentrierte sich auf die städtische und regionale Entwicklung der Stadt sowie die künftige Gestaltung ihres (inneren) Stadtzentrums. Lokale Akteuren, darunter Vertreter*innen der Stadtverwaltung, der Zivilgesellschaft und der Wissenschaft, waren eingeladen, die Planungstrukturen und die künftige Entwicklung der Stadt zu diskutieren. Um ein besseres Verständnis für die Region und ihre Verflechtung mit der Stadt Thessaloniki zu erlangen, umfasste die Exkursion auch Besuche in drei Klein- und Mittelstädte (Edessa, Ptolemaida, and Veria).
Die Exkursion wurde durch die DAAD-Hochschulpartnerschaft "Zentren der Zukunft" (https://future-centres.eu/) gefördert.
