"Challenges of Urban and Rural Transformation"
20th International Symposium on Society and Resource Management
The 20th International Symposium on Society and Resource Management (ISSRM) was held at Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany from June 9-13, 2014. 366 participants (approx. 30 % students) from 44 countries came to Hannover Conti-Campus for the conference, which also serves as the venue for the annual meeting of the International Association for Society and Natural Resources (IASNR). In total 411 presentations and posters were presented by research scientists, government agency managers, graduate students, non-profit employees, and private consultants from the fields of natural resource management, social sciences and environmental planning as well as urban and regional planning.
The conference was organized by the Institute of Environmental Planning (IUP), the Research Initiative Transdisciplinary Rural and Urban Spatial Transformation (TRUST) and the Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL).
Under the conference theme “Challenges of Urban and Rural Transformation” the ISSRM 2014 did put a focus on these changes and their societal impacts and the potential to mitigate their effects on natural resources and humankind.
Three keynotes from internationally esteemed colleagues covered questions of resource management in developing countries, the role of attitudes for the decisions of humans with respect to nature, and the increasing societal relevance of sustainable resource management.
