The Institute of Environmental Planning invites applications for a
PhD position in Economics (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 50%)
to be appointed as soon as possible. The position is part-time (50%) and limited to up to 5 years.Successful applicants will contribute to the research group PlanSmart, exploring innovative approaches to planning and implementing nature-based solutions for resilient development of metropolitan regions. PlanSmart focusses on water-borne challenges, cooperates with the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) and is funded through the program for Social-Ecological Research by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Responsibilities include investigating economic effects of nature-based solutions, including the modelling of economic risks and impacts and benefit-costs-ratios of solution options. Methods for empirical assessment and monetary and non-monetary economic valuation of technical and nature-based solutions shall be developed and new funding models such as green bonds shall be explored. The dissertation will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Reimund Schwarze at the European-University Viadrina (EUV) in Frankfurt/Oder.
Qualified applicants hold a good above average Master’s or Dipl.-Ing. degree in economics or related field with specific expertise in economic risks, multicrieria decision making, and benefit-cost analysis. Further requirements include a demonstrated motivation to contribute to an inter- and transdisciplinary research project in cooperation with international project partners. Good communication skills and a good command of English and German is required, presence at Ph.D. seminars at EUV or equivalent doctoral event (e.g. Ph.D. summer schools) in the amount of 10 ECTS is required for the dissertation.
